FACEBOOK - The Revolution !!

Well , being a student , a teenager and something of a youth icon of the 21st century , frankly one of the most interesting technical development I’ve been acquainted with, are the social networking sites.Taking social communication to a whole new bang-on real time level..!!! And i am SURE that most of my friends agree with this idea.. ISN'T IT FRIENDS..!!!???

FACEBOOK..!!! It is indeed my favorite and there is not even one person in my buddy list who is not a part of Facebook or at least haven’t heard of it. Being the most popular of these networking pages it  has grabbed world wide attention as an all time favorite Social networking hub in the WWW world (where by WWW I mean “world wide web” OBVIOUSLY) from the time of its foundation by a team of college students headed by MARK ZUCKERBERG while they were just a bunch of college mates at the HARWARD UNIVERSITY..impressive  !!! ain't it ??

MARK ZUCKERBERG

EVEN THOUGH MOST OF YOU WOULD BE AWARE OF THE FACTS BELOW I PRESUME IT WOULD  INTEREST YOU TO HAVE A GLANCE AGAIN… SO GO ON… ;)

Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, exchange messages, and receive automatic notifications when they update
their profile. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists such as "People From Work" or "Close Friends".
Facebook has affected the social life and activity of people in various ways. With its availability on many mobile devices, Facebook allows users to continuously stay in touch with friends, relatives and other acquaintances wherever they are in the world, as long as there is access to the Internet. It can also unite people with common interests and/or beliefs through groups and other pages, and has been known reunite lost family members and                                                                                          friends because of the widespread reach of its network.

Live voice calls via Facebook Chat, allowing users to chat with others from all over the world. This feature, which is provided free through T-Mobile's new Bobsled service, lets the user add voice to the current Facebook Chat as well as leave voice messages on Facebook. Facebook launched its video calling services using Skype as its technology partner. It allows one-to-one calling using a Skype Rest API.

IT’S NOT JUST A PROJECT..!!!
Built in PHP which is compiled with HipHop for PHP, a source code transformer built by Facebook engineers that turns PHP into C++, facebook is did not just limit to being a project..
As of September 2012, Facebook has over one billion active users…and trust me that’s not a small number buddy..!!

A January 2009 Compete.com study ranked Facebook as the most used social networking service by worldwide monthly active users.[14] Entertainment Weekly included the site on its end-of-the-decade "best-of" list, saying,
"How on earth did we stalk our ex, remember our co-workers' birthdays, bug our friends, and play a rousing game of Scrabulous before Facebook?"

BUT just like the saying goes… every coin has two contradictory sides..every networking site too has its own pros and cons..!!

Some argue that Facebook is beneficial to one's social life because they can continuously stay in contact with their friends and relatives, while others say that it can cause increased antisocial tendencies because people are not directly communicating with each other. Some studies have named Facebook as a source of problems in relationships. Several news stories have suggested that using Facebook can lead to higher instances of divorce and infidelity, but the claims have been questioned by other commentators.

Sites like Facebook, MySpace and many others are no more dangerous than any other form of online media such as emailim'ing, chat boards, uploading music and videos from a p2p, or browsing personal websites. You still need to keep your eyes open for the same things and beware, because the hackers are out there, just watching and waiting for you to click on their tricks.

Facebook Worms

What these Facebook worms all have in common is that none of them are telling you the truth. Another thing they have in common is how they compromise your privacy and the privacy of your Facebook friends. Don't be fooled, just be warned…!!!!

·         Koobface Virus - It makes you think you're going to watch a funny video or see a funny photo of your friend.
·         Profileye Worm - Tells you people are looking at your profile which piques your curiosity as to who it could be.
·         Error Check Worm - Tells you that some of your friends are having trouble viewing your Facebook page.
·         Facebook Shuts You Down - Instructs you that Facebook has just shut you down because you did something wrong.

Facebook's Not The Only One..!!!

Sure, Facebook's been in the news with worms, but they're not the only social networking site that's being targeted, or can become targeted. Hackers are a talented bunch and will find any hole they can. All social networking sites are vulnerable, just as are other forms of online media.

Protect Yourself

Here are some simple things you can do to protect yourself from online problems:
·         Use antivirus and adware software - This will only protect you against certain things. It won't protect you against many of the worms that are application based, but it will protect you against some of them (and many other things).

·         Only Update From a Software Site - If you go to view a video on Facebook and you're told to update your software, think twice. Don't update it from there. If you think you may really need to update your software, go to the website of the software itself and update it.

·         Don't Click Strange Links - If you get a message saying something like "Facebook has a message for you, click here", don't click there. If Facebook has something to tell you, they would have emailed it to you. If you have a question about a message you received, email them.

·         Ask First - If you're not sure if your friend sent you something, maybe it looks suspicious, ask them. Just send them an email asking them if they sent it before clicking on anything.

Don't Be Afraid
Facebook and other social networking sites are just as safe, if not safer than your standard email client. Definitely safer than downloading music or videos from one of those peer to peer sites. Safer even than browsing some people's personal websites.
